John King

John R. King is a partner in our Orange County Office.  Mr. King’s practice emphasizes strategic counseling, licensing, and patent prosecution matters.  He represents clients in a wide range of technologies such as semiconductors, computer hardware, computer software, on-line businesses, financial transactions, digital signal processing, medical products, telecommunications, video processing and audio processing.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. King designed digital hardware for graphics workstations and aircraft simulators.

Mr. King joined the firm in 1993 and became a partner in 1997.

 

Andrew Douglas

 Andrew M. Douglas is a partner in our Orange County Office.  Mr. Douglas received a BS ME, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota.  Prior to attending law school, Mr. Douglas worked as a product engineer in the recording head component division of Seagate Technology in Bloomington, Minnesota from 1994 to 1998.  He received a JD, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Douglas represents medical device companies in various stages of growth.  He is primarily involved in patent portfolio development, as well as infringement risk and enforcement, due diligence, and licensing matters.  Mr. Douglas’ clients develop and produce a wide variety of therapeutic devices and procedures, including stents, cardiovascular treatments, spinal and other orthopedic implants and methods, and ophthalmic implants and methods.  

Mr. Douglas joined the firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2006.

 

Andrew Kimmel

Andrew I. Kimmel is a partner in our Orange County office. 

Mr. Kimmel is involved in protecting intellectual property rights through patent and trademark applications and copyright registrations.  He has worked on a diverse range of matters involving, computer hardware and software systems, network communications and control, industrial automation, medical devices, and power systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kimmel was the Vice President of Engineering and Regulatory Affairs with Biolase Technology, Inc., a medical device manufacturer specializing in solid state laser systems for dentistry and medicine.  While with Biolase Technology, he was responsible for product design, development, and regulatory approvals by organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration, UL and CE.

During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Kimmel was employed by Northern Telecom as a design engineer responsible for creating a design rule checker for a semiconductor fabrication layout editor.  Mr. Kimmel also conducted undergraduate research into the use of neural networks as electronic filters.

Mr. Kimmel joined the firm in 2002 and became a partner in 2008.
